IN THE MAP PACK
Project pages, planning content and local search, aimed at the client who has been saving photos of kitchens for a year and is finally ready to call someone.
Clients do not search for an architect. They search for the job: a kitchen extension, a loft conversion, a new house on a sloping plot, in their town. Most practice websites answer with one gallery of beautiful photos and almost no words, and Google cannot tell what any of it is. The work is mostly turning your portfolio into pages that say what was built, where and why.
It does, to people. Google reads text, not images. A project page with three paragraphs, the location, the type of work and a few well-named photos can rank for years. The same photos in a slideshow rank for nothing. You do not need essays, just enough for a search engine to know what it is looking at.
On architect in a big city, often not, and you do not need to. Clients use Houzz to browse, then search for the practices they liked. What you can win is your own name, your town and your specialism: timber-frame houses, listed building renovations, a particular neighbourhood. When a client finds you on Houzz and then searches your name, they should land on your site and your best project, not a profile with three competitors beside it.
It is the most common one we see. Architecture sites carry more photography than almost any other kind of business, and it is usually uploaded at full camera size. We resize and compress every image so it still looks sharp on a big screen and loads in a second on a phone. Google measures that speed, and so does a client who gives up after three seconds.
Long before they call, they are searching for answers: do I need planning permission for this, what does an extension cost per square metre, how long does it take. A practice that answers those questions clearly is the one they already trust when they are ready. We write that content with you, in your voice, about the work you actually want more of.
Access to your site, analytics, Search Console and Google Business Profile, your project photos with a line or two on each, and a list of the work you want more of. That last one matters most. We would rather bring you three commissions you want than ten you do not.
